What follows is Didi’s interpretation of what Mom meant to say on Christmas Day:

“It’s a heck of a time to tell someone, but I’m not going to worry about it.” It’s not always easy to make a “presentation of your problem. We’re trying to find a half-lost … Are you aching to know?” Just because I’m “sick,” sort of on the edge of that and out of the freedom, doesn’t mean that I (don’t) wish I could be with people that I care about a whole lot.” I’m so happy that you ‘‘wanted to be home for Christmas. People are different in their ways, their clothing, their health.” Sometimes, “we can’t be at the same place at the right time.” When there are a lot of people around me it’s like a “Chorus piece.” But sometimes it feels like the “house is falling down.” Please don’t have a “deaf attitude.” Sometimes my words are “paltry, and it bothers me.” So listen to “my fairy words, the color is six” and if you listen hard you can “hear the sound on the water and the butterfly wings.”

“I’ve gotta tell you, you are query ducks.” Can you hear yourselves, “Quack, quack, quack, why, why, why?” “I’m going to be all that I can be. When he (Dad) comes home, he just brightens up the whole room.” We know “white socks dirty up a little soon. Catch on to the concessions,” our good marriage “depends on how easily we can sway. We have light phases and some low flying myrtle days.” We don’t wait to “have the strength, until the fire alarm. Be on top of that.” We’re not just “carnivorous animals. We have to cuddle up.” Be “keepers of the light. We, ourselves, chant when our views are pure. Hounding” each other doesn’t help. Take time to “sate the birds.” We enjoy our “private nights.”

For my dear grandchildren: “ Your love points keep growing. You look happy. You stand up and look around. That’s part of it. How can you think of anything except “Wonderful”? Sometimes “it’s necessary for your parents to sing you a “strict song. Teachers” can’t always “wear chocolate or be stone. We get spoiled easily and some of it is good and some of it is bad. And if you don’t get what you want, just put it at the end of the line. We have jumbo features,” and you all have “padded your abilities.” You all have special interests “and a real fever for it.” You want it “right away.” Eric, you’re a super athlete, Carley and Emily you’re super swimmers, Ben you’re a super writer. “Swimmer in the water, third basket to the right, second floor.” Ben, I’m glad you are writing about a planet named “Orndu, using my fairy words, Orndu, Dolger and Saushed.”

We have a very special family. Sometimes I look at it as living on a “land petal.” I want you children to be “happy, to sing and dance and have time to sit on the steps.
